Furisode & Tomesode

Furisode and tomesode are the most formal kimono for women. Furisode, with long sleeves, are for young, unmarried women and are typically worn for special occasions such as Coming-of-Age, graduation (ko-furisode also) and marriage meetings.Tomesode are worn by married women at semi-formal and formal events. They have no design above the waist and may have one to 5 crests. Kurotomesode, black-based tomesode with five crests, is the most formal kimono a married can wear and is most often worn by the mothers of the bride and groom.
